Zex Bilangilangi has voiced his frustration with Uganda’s music industry, particularly criticising the slow amendment of copyright law.

He pointed out the difference between Uganda and Nigeria, where a single hit song can greatly improve a musician’s life.

In Nigeria, a musician can make one song and change his life for good. They can build houses and probably start a record label. But that’s impossible here in Uganda.

He shared a personal encounter with veteran musician Rocky Giant, whom he met at a hangout spot.

Despite Rocky Giant’s past success with several hits, his current living conditions deeply saddened Zex Bilangilangi.

When someone stops releasing music in Uganda, they say you’re faded. Yet we have other responsibilities like farming because we can’t rely on music forever. It won’t change our lives the way we would like.
