Bebe Cool revealed the reasons behind his decreasing presence on the performance scene and denied claims that he lacks gigs because of his political affiliations.

During an interview with Eddie Sendi and Jenkins Mukasa on Vybe Life Ug, Bebe Cool addressed the growing perception that his absence from concerts is tied to his political alignment with the government and his public disputes with Bobi Wine.

He firmly dismissed these claims, stating that his decision to step away from performing is driven by other factors.

Bebe Cool explained that his choice to stop performing is financially motivated. According to the singer, he now demands a higher fee for his appearances and has decided to only consider shows that meet his pricing threshold.

I don’t perform in music anymore because it is a choice I made. I turn down gigs because I ask for a lot of money. I cannot perform for less than Shs 10 million.

Another reason for his absence from the concert stage is a personal shift in passion. Bebe Cool admits that his enthusiasm for performing has diminished over the years.

Despite once finding joy in performing for his fans, he now views it as a burden, even when offered big sums of money.

You can pay me Shs 200 million to perform at a show, but after receiving the money, I start seeing the performance as a burden.

The final factor that influenced his decision to perform less often is Bebe Cool’s realization of the financial limitations within the music industry.

The artist compared the earnings of top African musicians to those of prominent entrepreneurs and concluded that business moguls, such as Sudhir Ruparelia, Ham Kiggundu, and the late James Mulwana, earn substantially more than even the most successful artists.

I realised that among us musicians, the money we are making is what I would call childish money. We have not been able to make real money.
