King Saha has clarified that musicians are prepared to establish their own Uganda Performing Rights Society (UPRS) if the government fails to address their needs.
King Saha says that artists have the potential to create their platform for managing their royalties, separate from government influence.
King Saha’s remarks come amid growing dissatisfaction among musicians, particularly regarding handling royalties and copyright amendment.
He revealed that he faced immense external pressure when he contested for the presidency of the Uganda Musicians Association (UMA).
According to him, UMA has remained independent, unlike the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF), led by Eddy Kenzo, which he believes is more aligned with government interests.
If the government takes control of UPRS, we are ready to create our own entity that will serve the interests of artists under UMA.
