Two Ugandan youths have been remanded to Kigo Prison after being accused of insulting President Yoweri Museveni, his family, and several National Resistance Movement (NRM) supporters through videos on TikTok.
David Ssengozi, known on the platform as Lucky Choice, and Isaiah Ssekagiri appeared before Entebbe Chief Magistrate Stella Maris Amabilis on Monday.
They face charges related to hate speech and allegedly spreading malicious information targeting high-profile individuals, including Museveni and his family members on TikTok.
The accusations come from online content posted between September and October 2024 on Ssengozi’s TikTok account, LukyChoice70.
Prosecutors allege that Ssengozi, alongside Ssekagiri and another individual, Julius Tayebwa, shared information intended to “ridicule, degrade, demean, and promote hostility” toward President Museveni, his wife Janet Kataha, First Son Gen. Muhoozi Kainerguba, and other NRM-aligned figures.
In addition to the President’s family, the alleged hate speech also targeted prominent NRM supporters, including the artists Jennifer Namutebi Nakangubi (also known as Full Figure), Gereson Wabuyi (Gravity Omutujju), and Patrick Mulwana (Alien Skin).
Tayebwa, who was recently arraigned in court on similar charges, remains in Kigo Prison, awaiting trial alongside Ssengozi and Ssekagiri.
The court has set November 13 as the date for the accused to reappear, where the charges and evidence will be further reviewed.
