After the climaxed of the inaugural Nansana Zonal Schools Weekend League edition one of football discipline, the Wakiso District Secondary Schools Association chairperson, Gerald Katamba revealed that their next step is to introduce Netball league.
The Schools Sports governing body in Uganda USSSA asked her member associations to develop weekend leagues that will keep the athletes very active and continue to discover their talents.
Nansana zone was the first to respond to the call, started the zonal league for boys football, the league started in June with nine schools and Greenlight Islamic became the inaugural champion and received his trophy on Sunday at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium in Wakiso.
Speaking to this website, the chairperson of Wakiso District Secondary Schools Association, Katamba Gerald revealed that come next year, 2025, the weekend league will cut across all the 12 zones of Wakiso and the biggest target next year is to start the netball league.
“It’s very clear that Wakiso, we lead and others follow, the league was very successful and this means that come next year, the competition is going to be very stiff amongst the schools and I want to promise that our next target, we’re going for netball, we’re going to have netball league for all schools in Wakiso.” Katamba revealed.
“Having got the new leadership of the Netball federation, we had it in plan, as Wakiso that we start the netball league.” Katamba Gerald -Wakiso Secondary Schools Association chairperson.
According to Katamba, they will get a specific place where schools shall gather to play every weekend.
USSSA target is to have the schools leagues in all the disciplines the association recognises and cut across Uganda.
