The vibrant and upcoming cycling club in Uganda, Kawempe Cycling Club has launched it’s maiden end of year bike race set for December, 2024.
The most anticipated championship set to bring cyclists from Uganda (Hosts), Kenya, Rwanda and Tanzania is scheduled to take place on Sunday 17, December, 2024 and the setting off point will be Gaz Petro Station in Kanyanya and the finishing point is at Ttula-Kilokole.
The championship will attract both female and male categories, Female shall go for 60km while males’ race go to 120km.
To participate in the maiden championship, registration fee go for 20,000/- at individual level and a team (six cyclists) will register for 100,000/- and registration will take place between 14th and 16th December 2024 at Uganda Wildlife Education Center (UWEC) and 50% of the registration fee shall go to UWEC as part of Social Corporate Responsibility for Kawempe Cycling Club.
“In our deliberate effort to promote and develop our tourism sector, the registration venue will be at Uganda Wildlife Education Center (UWEC) and the 50% of the registration fee will be given back to UWEC to feed animals as part of our corporate social responsibility.” Says Hajji Nsereko Musoke Isa – Kawempe Cycling Club Secretary.
Local cycling stars such as Aziz Ssempija, Kintu Bucho, Khalid Mukuswabu, Mukisa Salak, and Mutebi Mahadi are ready to showcase their skills and compete for top honors.

“We’re preparing for this race as Kawempe Cycling Club and we’re ready, as a person I won’t say that I am going to win this race but I am going to work with my team to see that we win the first five positions.” Said Aziizi Ssempijja.
Team coach Fred Kisirise expressed confidence in his young and enthusiastic team, highlighting their dedication and rigorous training. “We’ve prepared extensively, and their passion drives us forward,” he said.
The race will commence at Gaz Petro station in Kanyanya and conclude at Ttula-Kilokole. To ensure the safety of all participants, security personnel and medical teams will be stationed along the route.
The race has prize money from the winner to 10th position.
The winner in male category shall go for 3M shillings, 1st runners will walk home with 1,500,000/-, 750,000/-,250,000/-,150,000/- will be won by takers of third,4th and 5th position respectively.
Those taking positions 6th-10th will settle for 100,000/-.
In women’s category, winners will go with 500,000/-, first runners up will take 300,000/- and the second runners up will have to take 200,000/-.
