The Inaugural Edition of the Mountain Uganda Dew 3×3 basketball championship successfully climaxed with St Noa Girls and Cole World crowned champions in ladies and men categories respectively.
The grand finale was held on Saturday at Lugogo Hockey grounds in Kampala, this was the climax of the Nationwide tour that covered seven stops; Kampala times two, Gulu, Mukono, Mbale, Mbarara and Jinja
To win the ladies category, St Noa beat 3-Peat on final with a 16-11 score line that saw them becoming the Inaugural winners of the championship and walked away with two million shillings cash prize, courtesy of Mountain Dew.
The four heroics who kept St Noa’s name in the books of records are; Anyango Maxine, Nanangwe Resty the best rebounder of the tournament, Namayanja Bushira the tournament’s Most Valuable Player and Atek Zoe.
The 3-Peat who won the maiden Stop held at Makerere University, walked away with one million shillings cash prize for the runners up.
Cole World who won the men’s category, beat VBL 16-14 on final and they took home two million shillings cash prize.
The team comprised of; Olara Solomon, Mumba Edgar, Saasira Martin and Muganzi Daniel
VBL took home one million shillings.
The Mountain Dew Brand Manager, Grace Namutebi asserted that the tournament gave them the best and they are expecting to bounce back bigger and better for the second edition.
“Yes the tournament went on successfully and as a brand of Mountain Dew Uganda that is aiming much at identifying and developing the talent in the country, we’re satisfied with the performance displayed by the players and we’re ready to continue supporting the game.” Said Grace Namutebi.
Obal Atubo, the Director of Redrhino Sports Agency that organized the tournament revealed that there is a lot of talent in the country and in the next edition, they expect to take the sport to the other regions where they didn’t reach in the first edition.
The individual winners, St Noa Girls’ duo of Nanangwe Resty and Namayanja Bushira named the best rebounder and MVP of the ladies’ category respectively.
Lamunu Sheila was the top scorer in Ladies category.
The best rebounder (Men) was Mabor William ,Top Scorer (Men) Thon Marial and the MVP was Muganzi Daniel.
