The Uganda Netball Federation president, Hon. Babirye Kityo Sarah has dedicated her global award she received from Blueprint for Free Speech for fighting corruption to the oppressed Ugandans.
For starters, Babirye was jailed for exposing the rot in the sports sector especially in National Council of Sports and she was again suspended from her presidential seat in April 2023.
In their investigations, the International Non-governmental Organization, Blueprint for Free Speech that is based in Australia and Germany, found out that Babirye was doing wonders in exposing corruption in the country and they named her the winner of the 2024 Whistle blower Africa Award.
After physically received her award, Hon. Babirye Kityo Sarah held a press conference at Serena Hotel – Kampala to to tell the public how she got the international recognition.
The joyful Babirye and the aspiring member of parliament 2026, Bukoto East has dedicated the award to the oppressed Ugandans who fight corruption but their voices are not heard.
“My eyes have been opened and now I know there are so many cases of injustices, that’s why I dedicate this award to Ugandans who are oppressed, who have tried to fight so hard to seek for justice but have failed to secure it.” Says Hon. Babirye Kityo Sarah .
” This award means a lot and it speaks volumes, that yes the country we serve might not recognize us, it might not be appreciating us, it might not be knowing how much we sacrificed, might not be knowing how much we go through but the Lord knows and the world is watching.”
Since it’s the ruling party and has stayed in power for at least 40 years, NRM is pinned as the party that harbors and breeds corruption in the country and it’s the mother party for Kityo. When asked whether she can switch to another party, Kityo boldly said that she can’t but to Fight Corruption Within the Party.
“Corruption doesn’t stop in NRM, should I switch from NRM?, the answer is NO, we can’t keep running away from problems and challenges, I think, the best option would be, to stay and fix the house and put it in order.”
Babirye asserted that now it’s hard to change someone who has been corrupt for decades but her target is the young ones who can agree with her that corruption is bad.
