The Jinja Hippos secured a thrilling 20-13 win over Victoria Sharks at the Kyadondo Rugby grounds on Saturday evening.
This victory marked their second win of the season, following their previous win against Toyota Buffalos at the Dam waters in Jinja .
The game was closely contested, with Victoria Sharks initially taking the lead in the 2nd minute through Israel Makoha’s penalty conversion. However, the Jinja Hippos quickly equalized with Azizi Bagalana’s penalty conversion, leveling the score at 3-3.
The Hippos gained momentum in the second half, scoring two tries and one conversion.
David Wako scored the first try in the 50th minute, followed by Ayman Bagalana’s try in the final minutes, which sealed the win for the Hippos.
Yasin Waswa successfully converted one of the tries, securing the 20-13 victory for the Jinja Hippos.
Sharks tactician Kevin Makamot said that they are going back on the drawing board and will return strong since the premiership has just started.
“We could win this game but the players relaxed. We are going to address the areas of concern and wait for our next game,” Makmot said.
His counterpart coach Edmond Mucunguzi said winning the game was a good motivation to the boys and they will count on that to improve.
“Our games in Kampala have always been tough ones, but I am glad we won today and we are going back to polish on our weak areas as we prepare for the home derby against Walukuba,” Mucunguzi said.
Victoria sharks play pirates next away from home while Hippos host Warriors at Dam waters in Jinja next weekend.
