With Schools getting ready for Buganda Kingdom Schools Sports activities set for mid this month, Buddo SS expressed their readiness with winning the Uganda Netball Buganda Region Novice championship.
The one of the Netball powerhouses in the country, Buddo SS from Wakiso District beat Green Light Islamic SS 24-17 in the final held on Saturday at Kawanda SS to become the maiden winners of the championship that changed the format of play.
Previously, the Novices were being played on the national level but with the new executive, the tournament has been brought down to regional level with the aim of increasing on the number of participating teams.
Basing on the results from the court at the semifinal level where Buddo thumped Gombe SS 26-29 with St Mary’s Kitende beating Green Light Islamic SS 20-19, the final was meant to be played between Buddo and Kitende but immediately after the semifinals, Green Light petitioned the organizing committee claiming that St Mary’s Kitende used the player who was not in the official photo that was taken on Friday prior to the tournament throw off. Green Light won the case and matched to the final to face Buddo SS.

Not like the anticipated final, Buddo found no serious hurdle in beating Green Light, Jessy Assiimwe coached side wo both halves, the first half ended 12-08 in favor of Buddo before sealing it in the last half with a difference of seven goals (24-17).

“We knew that we’re playing a stronger side, so we came very prepared for this match.” Ponny Faridah Hassan, Buddo SS goal shooter told this website.
“The player communication we had on the court, following our coaches instructions and hardwork helped us a lot to win this.” She added.
Hassan also revealed that they have used this tournament as a precursor for the forthcoming Buganda Schools Sports championships set for mid this month.
In other categories, Kyadondo Islamic won the primary category and WOB won the male category.
The tournament has attracted fifteen teams, ten secondary schools, three male teams and two for primary schools.
