Badminton Schools Tournament: Kibuli, Mbogo Turn Podium Finish a Norm | Voice of Bugerere

The 2025 Badminton National Schools Championship climaxed on Sunday at Lugogo Indoor Arena with the dominating schools, Kibuli SS and Mbogo High School taking the lion’s share. 

Like it is in different schools’ championships, Kibuli SS lifted the boys big trophy as Mbogo High School taking the Girls trophy.

The 3 day tournament that was held at Lugogo Indoor stadium started from 13th- 15th June 2025 attracted a total number of 360 players from 33 Schools. 

Gayaza Junior School was among the new comers in this sport of badminton with Janan School making their come back in the sport after period of over 10 years of not participating in any badminton activities

TEAM EVENTS WINNERS BOYS; 

In the boy’s final Kibuli Secondary School defeated Kinaawa High School Kawempe 2-0 to become champions.

In the run to the success, Kibuli overcame St Michael International and Seroma Christian High School in Quarterfinals and semifinals respectively.

Kibuli Secondary School on the journey, much inspiration was fueled by Akbar Nooh Oduka and Arafat Tendo Kibirige who stopped Najji Mbowa and Bruno Agaba with straight sets wins of 21-12, 21-7 and 21-14, 21-14 to win the event before doubles contest.

For Kinaawa High school to reach final, they eliminated Progressive Secondary school Kitintala and Kakungulu Memorial at Quarterfinals and Semifinals. 

TEAM EVENTS WINNERS GIRLS:

Mbogo High School won the championship by beating Rubaga Girls 2-0 in a game which maintained the nords of the fixtures with Mbogo High School continue to keep the dominance over Rubaga Girls.

On the route to the victory, winner Mbogo High School dominantly beat Trinity College Nabbingo and Kakungulu Memorial.

To win, Mbogo High School used Vivian Nalule and Ramiah Bukenya who overpowered Olivia Betty Kyomukama and Ketty Ndagire in singles 21-15, 21-17 and 21-16, 21-15.

Rubaga Girls eliminated returnees St Janan Lawumu and Seroma Christian High school to reach final.

In individual categories Kibuli Secondary School also was the finest with their students winning eight medals counting four golds and 4 four silvers.

Students from Mbogo High School managed to win four medals while Rubaga Girls and Ebenezer Junior students won three medals.

Umaimah Nabasirye of Nihad Baby School was a star of the championship winning two singles trophies bagging the under 10 and 13 girls.
