The 2024/25 FUFA Big League season has come to an exciting climax, with Midigo -based Calvary unbelievably qualifying to the Uganda Premier League (UPL) as champions with 52 points and Gaddafi defying the odds alongside Buhimba united tying at 50 points.
In Yumbe, at Midigo primary school playground where Calvary hosted Paidha Black Angels, Steven Oriokot scored the all-important goal in the 70th minute of the game for the hosts to pick a memorable win at home.
Calvary’s qualification not only makes history in the big League but also in the Ugandan football making it the first team from Yumbe District to join the top tier of Ugandan football and as champions.
Gaddafi’s win over Kataka with a 3-0 at Mbale Stadium saw them defying the odds unlike Busoga United and Arua hill who have been demoted to the third division as Buhimba despite of a goalless draw with Kiyinda Boys saw them book a slot in the UPL next season.
Elsewhere, a goal parade in Masindi was of no importance as Arua hill lost the relagation battle along with Myda, Busoga United and boma fc.
