The Uganda Aquatics National Swimming championship is set to be held on Wednesday next week at the Kampala Parents Swimming centre.

Not like before, this championship has attracted over 600 swimmers which forced the organisers to expand the event’s days from three to five days.

For starters the 10th edition of this championship will be held from Wednesday 2, July to Sunday 6 at Kampala Parents.

The championship that will host swimmers of different age groups has both female and Male swimmers, and according to Eric Kisero, the tournament’s director, 670 swimmers have registered among those, 323 female and 347 male from 21 clubs. 

This championship is not only from pride and winning medals but it will act as a selection platform for the players who will represent Uganda in the Africa zone III championship to be hosted in Nairobi Kenya in October this month. 

“As Uganda Aquatics, we’re going to use this event to select the team that will represent Uganda in Zone III swimming championship, Uganda is the defending champion, this championship is going to be hosted in Nairobi Kenya in October this year.” Said Eric Kisero while in the press briefing held on Thursday at the Head office in Kamwokya.

“We are also expecting to take the Water polo team and the Masters team.” He added. 

In the same press briefing, Uganda Aquatics president, Moses Mwase revealed how they will sit properly in the new Sports Act of 2023.

“We have divided Uganda into five regions, Kampala, Central, Eastern, Western and Northern and we will be working to set up structures that ensure that Aquatics develops in those regions, this was done in a view that we have a national character. ” Mwase.

“With time we will be able to have local competitions at district level and we are hoping that from district competitions we will be able to move on to regional competitions.” He added.

Uganda Aquatics is among the 45 federations and Association NCS received their registration applications.
