The National Schools Badminton tournament returned to action after five years of no show.

The three days tournament for school going kids from Primary and Secondary schools has shuttled off on Friday at Lugogo Indoor Arena.

For starters, the championship was last held in 2019 but COVID-19 sabotaged the flow of the tournament, ahead of it’s return in 2025, it has attracted an impressive number of schools, 33 in total, 11 primary schools and 22 secondary schools and 360 kids are participating in various age categories from U10 to U19.

The number has impressed the Association and the assistant secretary, Joshua Muguluma expressed his gratitude towards the schools and the sponsors who made the tournament returns.

“I thank the schools who have accepted to bring their learners in the tournament, the sponsors, like plascon who financed us.” Joshua Muguluma said before adding. “Many of our stars are made by this tournament.” He confirmed. “we have gone some years without this competition and that has been limiting the discovering of future stars, we should all know that the likes of Brian Kasirye, Tracy Naluwooza,Shamika Fadila and others started from this tournament and turned stars who are now representing the country on the continent.”

Janan School Bombo is one of the schools that have returned to this championship and Praise Kamira a student at the School expressed her excitement towards the return of the tournament.

“It has been a while when were were not playing, but I am happy that the tournament is here and as Janan, we came to compete and learn from others.” Said Praise Kamira.
