Singer-songwriter and producer Daddy Andre believes that Ugandans are many miles away from having a functioning copyright law.
He says that based on what he saw at the meetings he attended at the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF), no sign showed any efforts of trying to implement and amend the copyright law.
He explained that whenever he attended the meetings and tried to bring in the technicalities for the implementation of the law, his views would always be sidelined.
This forced him to ditch the meetings and leave the federation.
Andre further noted that the federation was set up to meet personal gains for some individuals which has not helped the industry at all. He also noted that Eddy Kenzo’s appointment as the Senior Presidential Advisor on Creatives has not been impactful to the industry.
Based on what I saw and experienced at the UNMF, copyright implementation will never happen in the Ugandan music industry. I left the federation because I learned that the people there were only interested in personal gain and I quit.
