After surprising the world in the just concluded Fast Five Netball Series in New Zealand, Uganda’s national Netball team, the She Cranes returned home on Monday afternoon in great vibe.
The side, whose players not been in action for over one and a half years due to fights with the sport’s administration, the She Cranes won a bronze medal in the Fast Five Netball World Series after beating South Africa 46-42 in the 3rd and 4th classification match.
The team arrived at Entebbe International Airport at 3:20pm and was received by National Council of Sports officials and Netball Uganda new Executive led by Jocelyn Ucanda.
At their arrival, Nassanga Shadia, the team’s goal attacker revealed the tactics they used to see that they beat their 2022 edition’s performance when they finished 5th.
“We’re very happy for this performance, we went expecting to perform well but not better than we did basing on the reason that we haven’t been in action for a while.” Nassanga states before adding “The tournament started poorly, we lost two opening matches but we, players and coaches promised ourselves that we can’t end a day minus any win, so we lifted our spirits and beat England.”
“We lost to South Africa but as you know we can’t lose against South Africa twice, so we went with that belief and beat them in the second game.”
The She Cranes head coach, Nelson James Bogere asserted that beating big teams in the tournament like England, it didn’t come as a surprise.
“I thank God that we put up such a performance, it has been my first time to have such a big task [National Team job] and I am very happy for this.”
” About the performance and finishing 3rd, I am not shocked because in a tournament every team comes when is prepared and it’s what we did.” He added.
In the tournament that attracted six top ranked nations in the world, Uganda played six games, won three and lost three.
