Ugandan singer Maro, real name Ronald Magada, believes Ugandan music has the potential to break out globally but the artists need to create more music using international languages.
Now back in the country after a long while abroad, Maro who will be performing at the #RoastAndRhyme festival on 3rd November has been sharing some knowledge with fellow local artists.
While speaking to the media, the Anjagala singer noted that Ugandan music can break barriers and several artists can enjoy international success if they do music that appeals to the international market.
He believes that singing in international languages can be a good start for several artists to appeal to the international market.
Languages including Swahili and English, among others, have exposed several East African musicians to the international audience and Maro says it can do the same for many Ugandan artists.
We have to make music in different international languages while maintaining our identity. Music that can be played everywhere. Personally, I’ve had audiences abroad, but I didn’t have the right music for them. They don’t understand Luganda, so we need to mix it with English, Swahili, and other languages.
Maro has inspired several Ugandan artists and helped several others through their careers in his longstanding music journey.
