The league debutants, Muteesa I Royal University continued to prove that they joined the University football league with an aim.
The Masaka based side beat the two time league champions, Makerere University Business School 1-0 upon the return of the league for the second round.
Defender, Sserwanga Musa scored the only goal that secured the three important points for the hosts.
The epic encounter saw first stanza end in a barren stalemate with Muteesa squandering the most goal scoring opportunities.
MUBS had only only clear goal scoring chance and that came as early as 10 minutes but Mbabazi Worrick failed to use it when he put the ball over the top.
In second stanza, MUBS looked a better side, creating enticing moments in the final half but weak to strike, Mbabazi, the team’s top scorer with two goals, had at least three chances to improve his tally but was so goal shy.
Tactically the Dudu Bosco coached side closed up Muteesa’s wings where it had strength in Busuulwa Patrick and Sserugo Geoffrey, they (MUBS defense) denied them spaces and waited for only moments.
The moment came in the 89th minute when they won a corner kick from the right flank, well swang in the box, goalkeeper, Matovu punched the ball but didn’t go far instead landed on Busuulwa Patrick’s head who passed the ball to well positioned Sserwanga who headed the ball into the top roof of the net to send anxious fans into wild celebrations.
The win took Muteesa to six points, topping group F with a difference of two points, MUBS dropped to second place.
These two sides have one match to spare but a win for Muteesa against MUST will automatically deny MUBS to propel to quarter final.
The league shall continue tomorrow with another much anticipated encounter between St Lawrence University and YMCA at Kavule.
