The Pepsi University Football League newcomers, Muteesa I Royal University went hard on Mbarara University of Science and Technology in an epic encounter held in Masaka on Thursday.
The royals beat MUST 3-0 to register their maiden win in the league they joined this season.
Sserugo Geoffrey, Bbaale Francis and Mubiru Ibrahim were on target for the hosts.
With a spectacular goal, arguably the best this season so far, Sserugo Geoffrey, handed the hosts a lead in the 34th minute and sent the crowd into crazy celebrations.
From the right flank, the left-footed Sserugo Geoffrey put off two defenders, cut inside and pulled out a belter that went in the far top corner of the 90 angle.
With their pace on both flanks, Muteesa looked too deadly with endless attacks and in the added minutes of first half, Sserugo was fouled from the the right flank, the hosts won a free kick that was well taken by Lubwama Ali, found a well positioned head of Bbaale Francis who head home the second goal and the first stanza ended 2-0.
MUST never had a serious attempt on the goal for the entire ninety minutes.
In the 86th minute, speed merchant, Busuulwa Patrick from the right flank dodged off MUST’s left back, entered the 18, with a low pass, he released, Mubiru Ibrahim who calmly pressed the ball at the back of the net to seal the win for the newcomers.
The victory sent Muteesa to second position with three points, one behind the group F table leaders, MUBS, MUST remained on one point in two matches.
The league will continue on Friday when Kabale University will be seeking to register their first win against UCU in Kabale.
