Uganda Martyrs University 2-0 Bugema University
The two-time Pepsi University Football League champions, Uganda Martyrs University took the two-goal semifinal first leg advantage against Bugema University.
In an epic encounter honored on Tuesday at Nkozi grounds saw the 2022 champions, Uganda Martyrs University comfortably beat Bugema University 2-0 in the first leg fixture.
Defender, Tumusiime Emmanuel and supersub, Lagu Richard appeared on the score sheet for UMU.
The first stanza started on a low torn, each side respecting each other and a few goal scoring chances were created, explaining why it ended in the barren stalemate.
Immediately at the restart of the second stanza, Kisuze ‘s boys took charge of the game in seven minutes into the half, defender, Tumusiime Emmanuel with an over head ball handed the hosts a lead, sorry for Kalungi Ronald, the visitors custodian who slipped before the ball hit the far corner of the net.
After making more changes with introduction of Lagu Richard and Muliika Patrick to stretch the field, UMU continued to be more deadly upfront, dominating the play, Nicolas Jjunga, Agamile Ivan and Sseruwuge Crispus enjoying the middle of the park.
The whole of second stanza, Bugema was toothless and with four minutes to final whistle, substitute, Lagu Richard doubled the lead for the hosts with a cool pressing, thanks to Muliika Patrick’s well laid cross from the right flank.
Uganda Martyrs University heads into second leg with a two goal advantage, Bugema needs to net two goals at home at least to force penalty shoots.
The league will return on Thursday this week when St Lawrence University will be hosting Islamic University in Uganda in the second leg encounter.
