Today at the media center in Kampala Minister of state for Disability affairs Hon. Asamo Hellen Grace has addressed the media that Uganda will join the rest of the world on commemoration of the international Day of persons with Disabilities.

This year on 3rd December Uganda will celebrate the day to acknowledge the capabilities of persons with Disabilities in contributing towards the development of the country.

This day also used to create awareness on the importance of promoting equality and full participation of persons with Disabilities in social life.

Eastern Uganda particularly Kumi district at Boma play ground is chosen to host the celebration. And the theme of the Day “Improved Household income for well the wellbeing of persons with Disabilities”.

The government of Uganda has disbursed over ugx 36 billions to persons with Disabilities since 2019 and this aimed to elevate household incomes towards persons with Disabilities across the entire country of Uganda. The parish development model has marked 10 percent of the funds at the parish for persons with Disabilities and almost over 30 millions has been given to each constituency to improve household incomes. 


Hon. Minister Hellen Grace said that

“poverty and inequality still remain high among persons with Disabilities and also added that Disabilities is considerable challenge to socio-economic development because of its associated functional limitations “.

The Day will be characterized by many activities that will be undertaken to raise visibility of persons with Disabilities issues.

The National disability symposium with panel discussions on improved Household incomes and the wellbeing of persons with Disabilities, Healthy camp, disability assessments , medical camp and also distribution of assistive devices.

The government has put in place a number of legal and policy frameworks that protect and promote the rights of persons with Disabilities which includes the constitution of the republic of Uganda.
