Even when women football was already in existence when Patricia Nayiga was born, her mother never wanted the kid to play the game even if the father was a baller.
This website brings you the football journey of Wakiso Hills WFC midfielder and captain, Patricia Nayiga.
The 16 year old Phiona Nabbumba secret admirer got no support from the mother though her father knew where the daughter got the love for football from.
“My parents especially my mum never wanted me to play football” Patricia Nayiga, the Wakiso Hills WFC midfield gem recalls.
“She would punish me whenever she was told by the teachers that I play football with the boys at school.”
“Also my elder sister would always support my mum that I shouldn’t play football. Then I could run to Dad whenever I was punished because he once played football so he would feel the pain I had whenever they beat me because of football.”
Nayiga got these punishments from Mum during her early days in primary school but since she had the support from the father, Nayiga continue with her dream.
“He (Dad) could continue supporting me and also used to buy balls at home for me and my friends to play after school in the evening.”
However, when she persisted on what she wanted, her mum accepted and now she is her biggest fan.
“Finally mum accepted that its football I want and now she is the one buying me playing boots, sometimes she asks me, are the boots you have enough or I add more.” Nayiga reveals.
Nayiga would go for other games while still in primary but she loved football the more to the extent that she used to hide whenever games time arrived at school.
“When I was at School in my primary times , we used to engage in different games but I used to hide whenever it was time for playing the games . And I could wait for the boys as they were going to play football then I moved out from where I was hiding to play with them .My interest as a person was only in Football”
Education Journey:
Nayiga Patricia so far studied in three schools, she started her elementary education at Sendrax Primary School- Kagoma in 2012, she completed primary level education at Pearl Primary School in 2017 and waiting for her UCE cerficate following the completion of senior four in 2024 at Wakiso Hills Secondary School.
Football History:
Nayiga started to admire football in 2013 and she drew her inspiration from a neighbor’s boy called Ashiraf to whom she hype as someone who had admirable football stills.
“I used to admire him ever since he started his football so I was like I also want to play like him because he was playing for Sparta.” Patricia stated.
” He used to do different skills on the ball and I was only left to admire always saying one day I will also start doing them and this was in 2013 in primary one.”
In that same year (2013), Nayiga started playing the ball on bare foot with her boy friends at home before she joined a home village (Kanyange) academy, Highness Soccer Academy in 2017 and the Academy coach by them a one Mawejje allowed Nayiga to join the Academy. While in her primary seven vacation in 2019 , Wakiso Hills SS lured her with the help of a one coach Kasajjage Umar who convicted Nayiga’s parents to accept the girl to join the school for senior one on bursary scheme.
The agreement Wakiso Hills SS had with the parents expires this year 2024 and it’s upon the parents and the student/player to renew the stay or to final another challenge.
