The State Minister for Sports in the Ministry of Education and Sports, Hon. Peter Ogwang flagged off the contingent of eight players to Cairo-Egypt for the Africa Aquatic Junior Championship set for late this month. 

The team was seen off by the Minister before the presence of the Uganda Aquatics president, Moses Mwase, former Uganda Olympic Committee President, William Blick and the athletes parents at the AFCON Secretariat office – Lugogo Kampala.

While seeing off the team that is confident of bringing back glory to the Pearl of Africa, Outspoken Sports Minister sent the words of encouragement to the youths, citing that their future in swimming is very bright basing on the infrastructures, the government is putting in place. 

“I thank the parents for immensely investing in these athletes, I have heard that players go as far as Europe for training, courtesy of parents, that’s very great, as government we thank you for that.” Minister said in his opening remarks. 

“But as government, we’re doing our best to see that this sport gets enough facilities, we’re going to start phase two at Namboole and it’s going to have a semi-olympic swimming pool, Hoima also going to have a swimming pool.” He stated.  

The team’s head coach, Latif Kajumbi is very confident in his team believing that they’re coming back home Victors. 

“We have a good team, we have short distance runners, middle and long distance runners, its the very first time that we have a team of full squad, I expect a lot from this team because it’s a very strong team.” Coach Latif Kajumbi told this site.

In the same line, the team’s skipper Pendo Kaumi is very optimistic that the tournament is theirs.

“We’re a very ambitious team, our expectations are very high especially in the relays, we believe, we’re going to do our best because we’re aiming for our personal best so that we can be able to represent Uganda more and more in the upcoming events.” Skipper Calvin Pendo Moses Kaumi stated 

The team is traveling on Monday, 28, April and the tournament is slated for 30th April to 3rd May 2025.
