Singer and media personality Tuff B, real name Robert Sekidde, has been suspended from Next Media’s NBS TV whose strict editorial standards have been facing much criticism in the past weeks.
Not so long ago, renowned journalist and ‘NBS Morning Breeze’ presenter Simon Kaggwa Njala was suspended for two weeks for hosting a politically charged thanksgiving event for opposition MP Mathias Mpuuga in Masaka on June 21, which was seen as a blatant endorsement of the opposition.
KURT presenter Tuff B now finds himself in a similar position following a tweet he made on 15th July 2024 in which he seemed to support NUP’s Countrywide Tour’s Bundibugyo.
Via X, Tuff B wrote: “The struggle for a better Uganda is not in vain. Despite the obstacles, setbacks, and challenges, know that every effort counts and every voice matters. Continue to speak out, stand up, and push forward. The future of Uganda depends on our persistence and dedication.”
Next Media believes the tweet violated their policies against impartiality, earning the former Gagamel Phamilyu singer a 10-day suspension.
“Management guys have always insisted they respect our right to personal associations, but have always reminded us that such connections must not compromise our professional independence or create a perception of bias,” a source stated.
In May, Tuff B publicly expressed his intentions to contest for the Makindye East Member of Parliament seat in the next general elections. He is expected to run on the NUP card.
