The USSSA Elite Games, girls football champions, Kawempe Muslim are on serious track to defend the trophy they won last year in Jinja.
The women football powerhouse, Kawempe Muslim won their two opening fixtures of the tournament that kicked off today (Friday) at St Joseph’s of Nazareth in Mpigi District.
The Ayub Khalifa coached side first beat Kampala district rivals, Uganda Martyrs High School Lubaga 1-0 courtesy of Shadia Nabirye strike, not forgetting the efforts of Monica Nannono who made the assist.
In the second match, Kawempe Muslim beat Bukedea Comprehensive 3-0, thanks to goals from Shadia Nabirye, Dorcus Kisakye and Nanyunja Kevin.
The two victories moved Kawempe to semi-final after topping group A with six points. They did this with a game to spare, the side is playing Sacred Heart tomorrow before the semi-final fixture.
In the same group (Group), Uganda Martyrs bounced to winning ways with a 5-1 victory against Sacred Heart Gulu.
Bukedea Comprehensive also beat Sacred Heart, 3-0 on day one.
The last year’s bronze medalists, St Noa Girls went riot against Sheema Girls from Mbarara, the Zzana based school put eight past Sheema with Sylvia Kabene alone scoring six and Summayah Nalumu securing a brace.
Sylvia Kabene’s hattrick in the second match helped St Noa Girls to secure a hard fought 3-2 win against Boni Concilli and they topped Group B with six points.
In boys football, St Julian had a bad opening day, had a one all draw against Jinja SS before losing 1-0 against Standard High School Zzana.
The defending champions, Jinja Progressive started on a high winning two of their opening fixtures minus conceding any goal, beat Kisozi Seed 3-0 before having the uniform score against the hosts St Joseph’s.
