Greenlight Islamic School crowned the champions of the maiden USSSA Nansana Zonal Schools Weekend League.
The league that attracted nine schools in Nansana zone started in June with the aim of keeping the players fit throughout the year.
The weekend league’s primary object being to keep sports vibrant in secondary schools and talent development, surely these teams have lived up to the expectations as there was action throughout the 140 days since 29th June 2024.
Justus Mugisha, USSSA president commended work done by the Nansana sub zone chairman in terms of mobilising and organising the league. Mugisha noted that this would set the pace for other zones and encourage them to follow suit.
”This league has provided a platform for students to develop their skills, team work and showcase their talents. It is essential for our students to be strong and ready for championships throughout the year.”
With weekend leagues also a platform for capacity building products to practice their craft, capacity building referees that officiated these games were appreciated and rewarded by USSSA president Justus Mugisha.
Greenlight topped the table with 21 points in seven matches played.
The championship climax was held on Sunday at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium in Wakiso and the organisers held the Elite tournament of four teams that launched the new edition.
The one day tournament had the champions, London College Nansana, Greenlight Islamic, Oxford High School and Highfield.
To win the championship, London College beat Greenlight 3-2 on final.

Greenlight Islamic School (champions), London College Nansana, Oxford High School, Amity, Uganda Martyrs, Kasengejje, St Michael and Highfield.
