Popular comedian and content creator Amooti Omubalanguzi opened up about some of the challenges he faced in his early stages of doing comedy.
Being one of the pioneers of the comedy industry in Uganda, Amooti Omubalanguzi is about to mark 25 years with a mega event.
He noted that at the start of his career, things were too tough.
He explained that back in the day, people were not familiar with imitating others and whenever one would imitate someone in a negative way, they would always end up facing legal consequences or even be jailed for it.
The content creator stressed that sometimes they would fear to imitate politicians because of the consequences that would come with it and were mostly comfortable with mimicking the late Mayor Ssebagala and President Museveni.
Unlike in the past, Amooti explained that the comedy industry is now on a smooth rail as comedians are allowed to imitate people or politicians without any challenges.
Currently, the comedy industry is on a smooth rail unlike in our early days when we had just started. In the beginning, people didn’t know that someone would imitate someone and sometimes we would be summoned to appear before court or even get jailed for imitating people.
