The National Building Control Awards (NBCA) is an annual event initiated by NBRB to honour, recognize and reward best performers in the building environment sector that have endeavour to adhere to the various built-environment regulatory frameworks at their own volition.

The first NBCA was held on 8th December 2023 under the theme “Accessibility & Fire Safety” and recognised best performing Building Committees, Building Control Officers & Developers in various categories of buildings for which the public have access.

Over the years, NBRB has developed codes, standards and regulations to guide the built-environment industry in Uganda in line with the laws of the country.

NBRB has further developed the Building Industry Management System (BIMS) that is meant to digitize the processes relating to application of building permits, approvals and occupation permit issuance.

Although adherence to these built-environment regulatory frameworks is still a challenge to many stakeholders, there are quite a number that have shown remarkable compliance.

This year, NBRB in association with partners have organized the second edition of National Building Control Awards – 2024 under the theme “Building for Sustainability”, following the successful launch of the first NBCA that was held in December 2023.

Children’s surgical hospital Entebbe won the category of the building award and among the nominees include Fairway hotel, Ndere Centre, NBS Next media Hub and Mount Sinai Kyabirwa Surgical center. Kira Municipality was the winner in the Building committee award and also the winner in the building control officer award.

Roofings Group Uganda limited is the master in the category of Building materials MANUFACTURERS award, Tembo steel limited and Tororo cement limited were beaten.

Gen. Edward katumba wamala Minister of works and transport was the guest of Honor said that “As our population continues to grow, the demand for housing units increases, the recently released 2024 national population and housing census figures revealed that 7 million Ugandans own houses and 2.7 million are living in rentals.”

” The figures further revealed that the biggest proportion of households in Urban areas live in rented dwelling units compared to 13 percent in rural areas”.

The executive secretary national building review board Engineer Flavia Gutto Bwire on the same event said that ” we intended to recognize individuals and organizations who have selflessly demonstrated compliance to the building control regulatory frame work”.
