The 2025 Masaza Cup match day one continues with entertaining fixtures and in the Masengere group, Kyadondo Ssaza hosts Bulemeezi at the newly refurbished Nakivubo Stadium as they target a perfect start in their hunt for silverware eagerly to set an early tone in what promises to be a tightly contested group that also includes Buwekula, Mawokota, Bugerere, and Buvuma.
After a semi-final finish last year, Kyadondo returns with renewed ambitions of winning the 2025 Masaza Cup trophy adding as they aim to break the long drought and make a serious push for glory this year having won it in 2008.
Significantly, Kyadondo have changed their home venue, moving from Hormisdallen Gayaza to the iconic Nakivubo Stadium, which is expected to offer a stronger home atmosphere and better facilities. The technical bench has also seen some5 changes, with Meddy Nyanzi continuing as head coach and joined by seasoned tactician Simon Masaba as his assistant.
A strong start at home will be crucial for Kyadondo, not only for points but also for momentum and confidence as they navigate the challenges of the Masengere group.
Three-time champions Bulemeezi enter the tournament with a point to prove. After a dismal 2024 campaign where they failed to advance past the group stage, the 2012, 2019, and 2023 winners have undergone a comprehensive overhaul.
New head coach Isaac Ntege, assisted by former Police FC player Badru Ssebitosi, leads a revamped technical team tasked with restoring Bulemeezi’s dominance in the competition. The team unveiled a 30-man squad, featuring a blend of fresh talent and experienced players, with Patrick Oyeet taking over the captaincy.
Bulemeezi understands the importance of securing a positive result on the road, especially against a strong Kyadondo side. A win or even a draw could set the tone for a strong group campaign and boost their ambitions for a record fourth title.
With only the top teams from each group progressing to the knockout rounds, early points are invaluable. For Kyadondo, a win would affirm their status as serious contenders this year. For Bulemeezi, it’s a chance to show that last year’s struggles were just a blip and that they’re ready to reclaim their place at the top of Masaza football.
