Most of the Uganda’s representatives in the 13th edition of the East Africa University Games to be hosted at Maseno University in Kenya are traveling this weekend especially Saturday, Kampala University inclusive.
On Friday, at the University’s main campus in Ggaba – Kampala, the contingent of at least 143 people have been flagged off by the Varsity’s deputy Vice Chancellor,Dr. Wardah M. Gyagenda
Since Kampala University is a brand known mostly by sports, the DVC has asked her students to win gold medals in whichever discipline they’re to compete in.
“Our expectation is to be champions of not less than 50% of the game we’re sending them to participate in.” DVC told this website at the flag off of the team.
“We’re very excited, Kampala University is known for sports, it’s our brand, we’re not going to let the University down and our sports men and women are ready, they’re all geared up, we’re ready to go.” Deputy Vice Chancellor of Kampala University Dr. Wardah M. Gyagenda said at the Varsity’s flag off on Friday.
The Dean of Students of Kampala University, Mugalu Carl Augustine revealed the sports disciplines the university is going to participate in and the contingent that is traveling to Kenya on Saturday evening.
“We’re traveling for the East Africa University Games and we’re having a contingent of 143 people, 23 officials and 120 Athletes in the fields of football, Woodball, volleyball, handball, basketball to mention but a few, we’re traveling on Saturday and we’re hoping to put up a very good show when we get to Maseno University. ” Says the Dean of Students, Kampala University – Mugalu Carl Augustine.
The sports disciplines, Kampala University is taking; Football (boys and girls), Volleyball, basketball, Netball, Handball, beach handball, Woodball, athletics, chess, teakwondo.
Kampala University are the reigning champions in the Netball category, going with that champions’ mentality, the team’s captain, Nakyagaba Tolifina is confident that they’re going to defend the trophy.
“As Netball, we’re well prepared, we’re ready to defend our trophy, we have a huge potential, the squad we are having this year is a bit bigger than before and the girls are talented.” Nakyagaba Tolifina – Netball team captain.
The tournament that is commencing on Sunday 15th at Maseno University in Kenya, Uganda is to be represented by 16 Universities.
Ndejje University are the overall defending champions.
