The KCCA football club legends paid a courtesy visit to one of the only three stil alive Uganda Cranes class of 1978, Africa Cup of Nations sliver medalists, Abbey Nasur at his home in Naguru- Kampala surbub. 

Nasur who is ailing at his home in Naguru, expressed his gratitude to the KCCA FC legends who thought about him during the needing time and he even had the tears of joy.

“I am very happy that the friends I played football with and those I have coached, have come to visit me, I don’t have much to say but to thank you for remembering me.” The former Maroons FC and Uganda Cranes free scoring forward, Abbey Nasur told this website.

Among the KCCA FC and Uganda Cranes legends who visited Nasur are; Benjamin Byamuholi and George Best Nsimbe, the latter revealed as to why they paid a visit to Nasur.

“We have come to visit our senior player, he is not the first one we visited,we started with Mazinga Peter and we are not stopping here, we shall continue visiting others especially the KCCA legends. I thank all the legends who have joined us in this initiative, we ask you to also join us in this move because we need this togetherness.” Said George Best Nsimbe, the current Kiyinda Boys tactician. 

The legends gave Nasur a brown envelope and other items.

The wife to Abbey Nasur, Sophie Nakasi Jitta thanked the KCCA legends for visiting his husband but also uttered that the medication he is on is very expensive and since he was the bread winner, they struggle to get the medicine. 

“We have tried to treat him, we’re using Chinese medicine, it’s very expensive but we try to see that he keeps his life, I thank the KCCA legends that you have thought about us and you visited us, that’s Great” Abbey Nasur wife.

The 72 year old Nasur started his football in Naguru Youth team where he propelled to KCCA though he wasn’t so vibrant in the City’s side until he joined Prison FC (current Maroons FC) where he made the name until he got his National team call in 1973. 

He also made a name in Kenya when he played for Gor Mahia in 80s, the super star by then also featured for Uganda in 1978 Africa Cup of Nations final where Uganda lost 2-0 to hosts Ghana and according to records,Nasur played for only 20 minutes in that encounter before he was put off the pitch due to stomach pain.

The class of 1978, it’s only three players are still alive, Abbey Nasur, Tom Lwanga and Paul Ssali ‘Gogolimbo’.

ABBEY NASUR FACTFILE:

-Born in 1952

-He played for five clubs (Young Salumbey, Naguru Youth, Prisons FC, Maragoli FC and Gor Mahia FC)

-He won three Cecafa titles with the Cranes (1973, 1976 & 1977).

-He played at two Africa Cup of Nations events for the Cranes (1974 & 1978).

-He won two Cecafa club championships with Gor Mahia (1981 & 1985) and Africa Cup Winners Cup (1987) and four league titles (1983, 1984, 1985 & 1987).

-He coached a couple of clubs in Uganda and Kenya (Coffee Board of Kenya, Metal Box, Stima, Impala Aliwatanya and Gor Mahia. In Uganda he coached KCC and Maji FC).
