The match day one of the fresh 2025 Buganda Masaza Cup has climaxed with five matches at various grounds on Sunday.
In Buwama, Mawokota had a successful revenge over Buweekula with a 2-1 deserved victory in the Masengere group encounter. Isingoma George had a brace on the day that helped Mawokota to start the journey of the fourth title on a high foot.
Isingoma gave the hosts the lead with a sensational free kick just before the break and doubled Mawokota’s advantage in the second half of the game as Candia Benon pulled one back for Buweekula.
It was a perfect revenge for Mawokota who lost 2-1 on aggregate to Buweekula in the quarterfinal last year and also a signal.
However, in the other Masengere group games Bugerere at Ntenjeru Ssaza ground needed a late minute strike from Osman Mayanja to rescue a point against resilient Buvuma Ssaza, his strike cancelled Ibrah Kasakya first half goal for the the visitors.
From Mukono, at Bishops SS Grounds, the 2024, losing finalists, Kyaggwe Sazza extended it’s dominance over Kooki with a 2-0 victory on Sunday. This is the second consecutive time when these teams meet in the same group [Muganzirwazza].
Both teams played to a goalless stalemate in the first stanza with limited goal scoring opportunities created. Substitutes in Mugalu David and Ssembalirwa Yosam secured the three important points for Simon Peter Mugerwa coached side. The goals came in the 70th and 85th minutes.
