Islamic University In Uganda has prolonged ISBAT University’s wait to score season’s maiden goal.
The Mbale based University beat ISBAT University 1-0 in the Pepsi University Football League encounter on Thursday in Mbale.
The Kalema Ashraf own goal secured the home side a much needed victory to go top of the Group A table.
In only nine minutes, the hosts were already up when the visitors connected in their own net.
Ngobi and Kalema Ashraf corrided, the clearance from danger didn’t go the right way and Kalema put the ball in his own net at the near post.
The following 20 minutes, IUIU showed that they have the control of the game and seemed to score more goals in the first stanza but they were too blunt before the goal mouth especially their lead striker, Mumali Faisal who failed to score on at least three occasions.
Slowly, the visitors grew into the game though they hardly shoot on goal.
The first stanza climaxed when the hosts were on top.
The most minutes of the second half,ISBAT displayed some good football and in the 69th minute they had a penalty appeal when their forward, Kakeeto Powell was fouled in the forbidden area though centre referee ‘swallowed’ the whistle and signaled play on.
The win moved IUIU to the top of group A table with seven points in three matches. ISBAT University are continuing to find their maiden goal this season and a point as well.
The league will have a rest until Sunday when Makerere University will be hosting Kumi University at Makerere.
