The two time Pepsi University Football League champions, Uganda Martyrs University becomes the first varsity to reach knockout stage following a 1-0 away victory secured against improved International University in East Africa (IUEA) on Monday at Kansanga.

The only goal that propelled the 2017 and 2022 champions was scored by Aguma Wesley in the 5th minute of the first stanza, thanks to Calvin Peter Emayu well swang in corner kick from the left flank. Wesley had no option apart from converting with a header.

Hassan Wasswa Mawanda boys tried to comeback into the game with a well constructed play, but UMU’s defense was too solid to conceded against the side they beat four in the reverse fixture last season.

However, besides not converting with a number of chances created on the day, IUEA looked an improved side that is anticipated to be a competitor in the forthcoming seasons if they keep the right track.

Uganda Martyrs University qualified to quarter final stage with two games to spare, they have secured maximum points in the four played matches.

IUEA have registered their second consecutive loss of the season, both losses came against Uganda Martyrs University, they sit third with four points.
