The proprietor of Kampala University Original, Al-Hajji Professor, Badru Ddungu Kateregga was in stands witnessing his side beating Gulu University 3-2 on Thursday at Yes Centre Arena in Nsambya.
This is the first time in the recent past for Kateregga to be in stands as his side play in the early stages of the Pepsi University Football League.
His availability wasn’t let down by his boys as the managed to complete a double against Gulu University following a 3-2 victory in a five goals thriller.
Forward, Wanume Gilbert netted a hattrick on the day to send his side on top of the table of group D, now with nine points with two games to go.
The visitors first took the advantage, Komakech Comboni scored for Gulu in the 32nd minute with a cool strike at the near post, thanks to Okwir Emmanuel well laid low cross from the right flank.
In the added minutes of first stanza, Wanume Gilbert followed well Ssaka Vicent long pass and level the matters immediately before the break.
The equalizer came after a number of squandered chances including that of Wanume which hit to top bar in the 40th minute.
In second half, Kampala University continued with its tiktak football with high intensity and their efforts yielded after 17 minutes, captain Mulamba Abbey won a penalty when he was brought down by Lawech Joel in the area.
The star boy, Wanume sent the keeper, Komakech Douglas on the wrong side to hand Kampala University a lead.
Wanume sealed his hattrick with a calm finish inside the 6 yards box, thanks to Azabo Kevin sweet cut back that beat the Gulu University defenders.
Gulu University via Nyeko Rogers converted from penalty kick in the 89th minute to end the game 3-2.
The loss on the road limited Gulu’s qualification chances though they have maintained their third position with four points in four played matches.
The league shall continue tomorrow (Friday) with one fixture at Kanyanya playground where ISBAT University will be taking on IUIU.
