Rabadaba holds the distinction of being the first artist signed by the Swangz Avenue, however, his tenure was notably brief and here’s why:
Benon Mugumbya, co-founder of Swangz Avenue, revealed that Rabadaba’s departure was largely due to misaligned expectations.
At the time of his signing, Rabadaba was already a well-known figure in the music industry, particularly in Uganda.
This status came with high expectations, including the request for a car, which the label could not accommodate.
Benon acknowledged that Rabadaba’s request was not unreasonable given his stature. However, the label’s capacity to fulfill such demands was limited at the time.
The experience with Rabadaba influenced Swangz Avenue’s strategic direction going forward. Learning from this, the label shifted its focus towards nurturing upcoming artists rather than established ones.
