The 9th edition of the annual Rotary 5-a-side football tournament was on Wednesday evening launched by the Rotary Club of Kiwatule at Kati Kati Restaurant Lugogo.
This 9th edition is scheduled to take place on Saturday 19th July 2024 at the Kampala International School Uganda (KISU) Bukoto Football Grounds.
Speaking at the launch, Nkangi Edward, Vice President of the Rotary Club of Kiwatule said the tournament which was first played in 2015 has helped raise over UGX 167,500,000 all of which has gone to Rotary community service projects across the country.
“We are excited to be here launching yet another edition of the Rotary 5-a-side football tournament which we have been holding since 2015. Over the last 8 editions the Rotary 5-a-side has raised over one hundred sixty seven million five hundred thousand shillings that has gone to serving the less advantaged in our community,” Mr. Nkangi said.
Rotary Club of Nakasero Central were the champions of the 2024 edition of the Rotary 5-a-side winning UGX 5,000,000 which went towards the club’s community service project.
“As a club we were very excited to have emerged winners last year’s Rotary 5-a-side. We had a lot of fun and the five million shillings that we won went towards our community service projects,” Agaba Jamie, the President of the Rotary Club of Nakasero Central said. “We hope to win again this year”, he added.
Rotary District Governor Ms. Christine Kawoya commended the Rotary 5-a-side saying it demonstrates how Rotary unites for good.
“The Rotary 5-a-side is a wonderful activity that demonstrates the power of Rotary in uniting Rotarians, Rotaractors and ‘Corporates’ to have fun while at the same time raising funds for community service. I thank Rotary club of Kiwatule for maintaining this activity and I urge all Rotary Clubs in Uganda to participate and have fun,” Ms. Kawoya said.
“I want to thank the various companies that have already confirmed their participation in the Rotary 5-a-side. These include Centenary Bank, Pride Bank, CAA, FINCA and others. Thanks to your support I am pleased to announce that a total of twenty million shillings will be won in the Rotary 5-a-side as prize money which money will directly go to supporting the implementation of community service projects,” Ms. Kawooya added.
Prize money of UGX 20 million has been set aside for this year’s Rotary 5-a-side which money will go towards Rotary Community Service projects across the country.

Registration for the 2025 Rotary 5-a-side is ongoing and the deadline is Wednesday 8th July 2025 on a first come first serve basis.
