Uganda Police has claimed that Bobi Wine stumbled and injured his leg contrary to what is being reported that he was shot by the Force.
Uganda’s opposition leader, Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has been admitted to Nsambya Hospital after sustaining an injury during an altercation with security officers in Bulindo.
The incident occurred in Bulindo Town, Kira Municipality, Wakiso District, on Tuesday evening.
According to the police spokesperson, Kituuma Rusoke, the confrontation began when Bobi Wine initiated a procession in Bulindo Town after the celebration.
Police advised against the procession, citing security concerns, but Bobi Wine allegedly insisted on proceeding, which led to the road being closed off. This prompted police intervention to prevent the procession from continuing.
After the celebration, Bobi Wine embarked on a procession up to Bulindo Town. Police advised against it. Despite their guidance, he insisted on proceeding and closing the road, leading to police intervention to prevent the procession.
In contrast, the National Unity Platform (NUP) suggested that the incident was a targeted attack on Bobi Wine’s life.
A statement from his team on X, formerly Twitter, claimed that security forces surrounded their vehicles and fired live bullets, teargas canisters, and other projectiles, resulting in Bobi Wine being shot in the leg.
However, Rusoke countered this narrative, stating that police officers on-site claimed Bobi Wine stumbled while getting into his vehicle, causing the injury.
