Ugandan filmmaker Kizito Samuel Saviour has been announced as the head jury member for the Rustenburg Film Festival 2024.

In their statement, the Rustenburg Film Festival organizers expressed their excitement and honor in having Kizito join their team.

We are honored to have Kizito Samuel Saviour as our head jury member this year. Kizito is a celebrated Ugandan filmmaker renowned for his diverse expertise in producing, writing, directing, cinematography, and editing. His acclaimed films include Ssekkukulu (2023), Nkwanzi’s Slip (2023), Mania (2022), and The Forbidden (2018), the most awarded Ugandan film in history.

Kizito Samuel Saviour is not only a distinguished filmmaker but also a dedicated educator and mentor.

He teaches Film & Video Production at ESOM School of Music in Uganda and serves as a Film & Television Studies Mentor at the University of Limpopo in South Africa.

He is the founder of the Uganda Academy Selection Committee, approved by The Oscars, and Kyooto Media Group, an organization that nurtures young talent in the filmmaking industry.

His contributions to the film industry include serving as an ambassador for The African Film Festival (TAFF USA), a jury member at the Accra Indie Film Fest, and a judge for the 2022 Netflix-UNESCO African Folktales Reimagined Short Film Competition.

His entrepreneurial achievements have earned him a nomination for Entertainment Founder of the Year at the FOYA Awards 2021. Kizito’s career spans across filmmaking, education, mentorship, and the global promotion of African cinema.

Taking to his X platform, Kizito expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming festival:

The Rustenburg Film Festival, set to take place from September 25-29, 2024, in Rustenburg, North-West Province, is an event featuring films, industry programs, and workshops.

The festival welcomes short films of any genre, provided they are low-budget and story-focused. Films in languages other than English must include subtitles. Filmmakers often attend the festival to participate in Q&A sessions, fostering a rich exchange of ideas and experiences.
