The 2024 Eastern Africa University Games officially commenced on Monday at Maseno University and Uganda’s big boys, Kampala University, IUIU and Makerere University Business School had a better start with huge hope to make it to the knockout stage.

Kampala University lost to IUIU in Uganda’s affair in the opening fixture of group B with Tamubula Ismail scoring the only goal in the opening minutes of the second half and eventually won the epic encounter.

Kampala University returned stronger in the second match of the day and beat the hosts Maseno University 1-0, thanks to Lakomakech Bill first half goal. 

Vincent Tumusiime, Kampala University’s tactician and their captain, Mulamba Abbey speak after the two matches of the day.

“At the stage where I am is to identify the problem and then get the solution, the first was some mistake of drop up, they switched the ball and our defender failed to do but after identifying the problem, we bounced back and won the match as simple as that. ” Vincent Tumusiime, Kampala University head coach. 

“We’re very grateful for the game we won because during the first game, we lost against IUIU, it was a tough game but it takes a strong mindset, strong team and a strong technical bench to come back and win the following game moreover against the hosts, so we’re very happy and waiting to win our last match to see that we make it out of the group. ” Says Mulamba Abbey, Kampala University Captain. 

MUBS against UCU

In other results, MUBS only a point away from qualifying to the knockout stage, the Nakawa based side secured four points in their opening two matches of group D, beating University of Dodoma (TZ) 1-0 and played to a one all draw against UCU. The goal for MUBS against the University of Dodoma was scored by Mbabazi Worrick Joe.

Dudu Bosco, MUBS head coach is impressed with the performance of his boys and has only one target to win the championship.

“I loved the resilience from my players, they from the start to the end, they got chances but never utilized them, but a draw against UCU is not a bad result.”

“Just like any other coach, our target is to win the championship, and it stays until anything happens.” Dudu Bosco, MUBS head coach said.

Uganda registered 10 men football teams; Bugema University,IUIU,Kampala University, MUBS, UCU, Busitema University, Mountains of the Moon, Bishop Stuart, Makerere University and the group stages set to climax on Tuesday and the top two teams from each group qualify to quarter final
