Ugandan Actor, Model, and aspiring Filmmaker Housen Mushema spoke to us about his experience working on the ‘Sanyu’ TV series.

Starting his acting career in 2013 in a William Shakespeare play “The Tragedie of Macbeth”, Housen Mushema quickly rose through the ranks the following year, earning a role in one of Uganda’s best-ever TC series The Hostel in 2014, Second Chance in 2015, and a couple more films.

Fast-forward, he is one of the best actors in Uganda today, and his role in the recently concluded Pearl Magic Prime Sanyu TV series has been applauded.

On the show that ran for four years with 880 episodes, Housen Mushema played Patrick and he describes the experience as “challenging” because the script was being written while shooting was already happening.

He notes that it needed versatile and flexible talent to execute the different roles, something that also gave him a learning experience.

The thing about Sanyu, the script was being written while we were doing it. So it needed some versatility and to be adaptive.

I can never say I prepared for the character (Patrick). I had to understand slowly because, in a show with 880 episodes, you couldn’t just dive into whatever character. You have to study and let it grow with you because you’ve been shooting every day for four years. That was the most important thing for me to deliver the Patrick character.

Mushema also mentions that they shared so many great memories over the four years and it is a series that remains fond in his life.
