Green Light Islamic School Nansana is among the five schools that good automatic qualification to 2025 USSSA boys football national championship slated to be hosted at Ngora High School in Ngora district in May.
The five schools are; Wakiso District champions, St Mary’s Boarding Secondary School- Kitende, Buddo SS, Green Light Islamic, Standard High School Zzana and Kyadondo SS.
Greenlight Islamic school to qualify they eliminated Cityland High School by 1-0 in the second half of the game. Kawooya Thomas Alvin scored the only goal of the deciding game against CityLand Matugga using his first touch few seconds after coming on as a substitute.
On the journey of qualification Greenlight Islamic won the trophy at Nansana zone before over coming teams like Andy Mwesigwa Comprehensive, Kajjansi Progressive, Airforce and Kings way Entebbe.
Greenlight topped group D with 10 points to qualify to round of 16 where they stopped Zana Mixed by 2-0 reaching the stage where they sealed a national slot with a 1-0 win over Cityland.
Greenlight Islamic school games teacher Hamza Haruna Mukiibi said that “It’s our turning point as Greenlight to qualify in USSSA,we thank our director for the wonderful role he has played towards sports activities at the school and as games master l promise that I will sacrifice whatever I have in order to elevate sports in our school through the support from our director ” also added that “Alhamdulillah Allah has enabled us to achieve which we have been working for ever since we started, we have worked for it patiently as entire school, the Director, the Head teacher, and the parents have been very supportive”
Goal scorer Kawooya Thomas Kalvin promised that this it’s a beginning to build new history behind the school name . and also added that “I feel happy for my entire team and I am also happy that I scored my golden goal for the entire team and also the school and we have worked together to become the first Greenlight team to qualify now we are turning focus on setting new records”
Greenlight Islamic Nansana has replaced London Collage Nansana while Standard High Zana, St Mary’s Boarding School Kitende and Buddo SS all retained their slots at National boys football championship.
